When my FIL died my MIL needed copies of all her marriage certificate and such for Social Security and we dug through everything and couldn't find it.  And then she couldn't remember which county or city they had gotten their license in, but we had to pay fees just for the various jurisdictions to look to see if they had it, then to get a copy.  Fortunately Social security appeals took some other documentation we had because the whole process took months and months and hundreds of dollars.[/quote]

We tried everything, we even got a lawyer.  We eventually got someone in appeals who took her secondary evidence.
