Elite general athletes don't always make the best soccer players. They DO make good goalkeepers but soccer also requires a lot of training and hundreds of hours with the ball no matter how athletic you are. Usain bolt tried playing low level pro and couldn't do much (and he had played soccer growing up!!)
Yeah but we are talking middle school and high school age kids here. Usain Bolt would dominate in travel and soccer college. On the girls side it is just athleticism, physicality and speed from travel to the USWNT. Technical skills are just not that important or needed on the girls side. It is a different type of soccer vs the boy’s side. The speed of play is slow which increase the impact of fast and physical players. Look at the new players trying out for your kid’s ECNL. A great technical player with average to above average speed needs other players to pass to and most coaches will pass on that type of player. A player with size, speed and physicality but average to below average technical skill will always be selected. That is the girls/women’s game. The top players on the girls side are not the high IQ a great touch, accurate passing, passing with the proper weight and pace, curving balls, etc. The top girls are winning balls, running by other girls, knock other girls down and rarely passing.
