Was reading those petitions, can someone explain to me how they benefit those who live outside Churchill and Wootton clusters? I understand that they don't want to change their boundaries, but keeping their current boundaries, doesn't it mean the other clusters will be more severely impacted in order to provide enough feed for Crown? If Crown becomes another TJ, then nobody's boundary needs to be touched, including theirs. But ONLY keep Churchill and Wootton together, aren't they part of MCPS?
I'm not saying it's the same thing but when you see groups feel threatened or trampled upon, you don't see them saying something like, "Hey you're violating my rights, let's come together and find a way where we can all get along..." No, they march and protest saying that their group won't be threatened and they're only watching out for their own group. Those maps are incredibly complex and hard to read and I would be impressed if anyone, with no formal background in it, would be able to view the entire map and find a way to make it work for the entire school system. The best communities can do is advocate why the options do not work for their community. Then hopefully the decision makers, who hopefull does have this full view, can take it into account when proposing the final decision. Of course not everyone will be happy. But if the communities see something that does not work for them, they need to make sure it's known otherwise people may not be aware of the potential issues they'll face. I didn't really follow it but I know people were upset about the Seneca Valley and Clarksburg boundary process. Would you complain that those people were only watching out for their own communities too? Or is it that certain people don't have the same rights to advocate for themselves? Maybe because you think they have enough money or they're a certain demographic?
