They both seem very difficult and rigid in their ways. It was bound to blow up. I do think Gisele made it pretty clear she was expecting him to retire years ago and his lifestyle during the season was tough on the family. There are rumors he didn’t like to have sex anywhere near a game so that could have added a strain as well and I imagine that is tough during the whole season. Who knows if there is anything he could have done but going back to the game after announcing his retirement seemed like a an F U to his family.
So she wanted to get married and have him retire and quit his job? That doesn't work these days, remember a "man is not a plan"? Why should have stop working for her? She knew what she was getting in to.
No she didn’t. When they started dating he told her his career would not last beyond late thirties because it’s not typical for an NFL QB. Then as the years went on he kept figuring out ways to extend his career and she lost patience. She was perfectly supportive at first,
Yea it’s my understanding she was extremely supportive of his career through most of the marriage. Tom retired at an unusually late age -a good 5-10 years after most quarterbacks retire. He documents this in the documentary Tom versus Time which is all about how unusual it is for him to be playing that long. It apparently caused a lot of strain in the marriage.
And this is why a beta personal trainer is a good fit for her. It’s all about her.
What? I mean, marriages take compromise. In what way did he compromise?
Yes, this. She was always the one making sacrifices, never him. He couldn't even keep his commitment to retire at the agreed-upon time, when he was well past his prime and had already played much longer than expected. It must have been a pretty lonely marriage, normal for two people to grow apart after a long time with this dynamic. I think they want different things out of life, too. She wants to do eco-traveling, spend lots of time with her extended family, and sustain connections with Brazilian culture. Not surprised her current BF is Brazilian. Those things matter more as you age. He's not interested in any of this, wants to hang out in his huge mansion, date models, and watch football. Nothing in common beyond the kids.
He seems deep as a puddle and very self-absorbed to boot.
+1 Seems like he'd be a bore to live with. You'd HAVE to love football to find him remotely interesting.
