Even if Dunkel somehow is cleared to play the final 4 weeks of the season, I still think Gonzaga is the better team. Purple Eagles are rather senior heavy this Spring. The Cadets are young and in-experiened, they will likely take some big losses in March however they will be a much better team as the season carries along. Can Gonzaga improve under King as the season plays out? The Eagles have historically come out firing in March and tail off as the season progresses. WCAC will be rather boring this Spring, 2 horse race for the crown. Big drop off after the top two teams with PVI and DeMatha likely as "dark horses".
Funny. Similar forecasts from the Purple faithful as last several years for the WCAC crown. Last year, SJC roster was loaded with frosh/sophs. All the talk leading up to last spring was how could SJC win without 2022 class? Quickly forgotten here is SJC relied on at least 10-12 frosh/sophs that either started and/or contribute a ton of minutes last spring. They are the core this year. Now all these sophs/juniors return are now “inexperienced”? It’s what’s separates the two programs. SJC is the better coached team period. Growth, development, preparation, experience winning and excellent coaching outweighs that senior heavy hero ball team on eye street. Gonna be another trophy at Military Road at end of spring.
Is one of those Freshman or Sophomores a FOGO or Goalie because they will need to fill those holes. Without the #1 at A the others will find it tough when they are drawing other teams top D. 2022 was the top of arch for SJC they had a decline in 2023 but still managed to be the best in the WCAC and were favored to win it. This year it will move to Eye Street
Boring. Guess Zaga won’t feel the loss of their keep or mids? Hahah. Are they returning as 5th years? SJC will be in better shape than Zaga at both positions in spring. Margin won’t be as wide but it will still be there. Speaks and co. will adjust and coach’em up. Again, another huge difference between the two programs. You know this. You really need to watch your favorites play a bit more. There’s a reason why they haven’t won in a very long time. Better hope PVI doesn’t beat them for the 3rd strait. Ouch. Should focus beating the other WCAC teams, otherwise you may not even make the championship game. Not gonna compare 2022 vs 2023. The 2022 class was the best team out of the DMV in a decade and possibly ever. Another trophy to military road in 2024.
