Do you really think anyone outside this area is saying I cannot believe FCV did not get into the ECNL? I know this is going to come as a big surprise for many of you, but have you guys ever thought the reason that FCV didn’t get into the ECNL was because they really are not that good. Just a little history lesson for you all… FCV only became a club because of the ECNL. TF (who started the club) was well connected and took a chance on the new league. If FCV had to actually apply to the ECNL, they would have never got in because they were not really a club and didn’t have history. When the ECNL was around for the first 6 or 7 years, it was the hands down best league in the country with the best 80 some clubs, best teams, and most of the best players. The colleges enjoyed that because it was easy for them to see the players play against the appropriate competition in one place. FCV was the worst club in this area in the ECNL. McLean, Bethesda, and MD United were better then them. In almost every age group they got worse overtime and most of their best players left the club. They might have had one good team (Team Emily Fox) the whole time and even that team ended poorly. They had a revolving door of coaches and clubs they put their name on that consistently ended badly. In their last year of ECNL, I don’t think they even had one team make champions league and they probably didn’t finish in the top 50 in clubs in the country. When the DA started, about 25-30 of those ECNL clubs left to go to the DA with some of the top clubs having a team in the ECNL and DA. After the first year, many of the clubs came back to the ECNL when they realized US Soccer doesn’t know how to run anything. And each year, more and more of those clubs kept coming back. The ECNL now has almost all the original clubs back and will no doubt be the best league with the GA in a distant distant second. The original ECNL clubs have dominated the DA because they had the elite head start. FCV doing well in this conference should be no surprise. The DA conference that FCV competed in was awful and the worst conference in the country. Just look at the results when they play against other conferences or they play ECNL teams. It does not surprise me that all the FCV parents think they play for the best teams and FCV is the best club. Before I left FCV, I thought the same thing. My daughters team was winning at the young age groups but let me tell you it means absolutely nothing. My biggest regret was not leaving sooner. FCV has always had talented players. They recruit very well at the young age group but do the players really get better? Why don’t they get better? That is simple, poor coaching. I read all these posts about how our team is the best and we have the best players. Hopefully, you and the other best players go somewhere else. Everything reminds me of when I was there, win against poor teams, struggle against any good teams, and market/recruit like crazy. It has been posted many times on these forums, but if you are the best in your conference like the FCV U16 team, then how are you not beating mediocre ECNL teams. Or even worse if you are as strong as the FCV U18/19 team then how do you get crushed by Charlotte 5-0. And again, everyone says the FCV U15 team is the strongest but they get crushed by PDA where the parents are fighting? That has to be extra scary because FCV usually does well at the younger age groups so it won’t be getting better. And I understand if you lose a game by a goal or a couple goals but only poor coaches get crushed by that margin with “the best talent in the area.” FCV can try to brag about all those college commitments and national team placements in the past (how many are from the current coaching staff and is the national team just all Emily Fox?). But remember the reason they have been considered a good club in this area was because they were the first club in northern VA with the ECNL, not because they have actually been a good club. It is funny that the ECNL was what made them a club, but them leaving and not getting back in is what is going to kill them. FCV will be dead in like 2 or 3 years and the whole area will be better for it. The GA will be a joke. The clubs had to do something to try to keep their players but if I had a kid playing for FCV or any GA club, I definitely would not be putting up a lot of money until I find out what they are actually going to do. FCV would be better off just scrimmaging ECNL teams but we know what happens when they actually play good teams…
