This. She either downplayed it initially thinking those details wouldn’t be made public, or she didn’t know. What kind of husband and church leadership would be letting her find out in real time with the rest of the public?

Jen went the opposite route and made things sound drastically worse in her marital-explosion initially. As their details trickled out, it was still sad and devastating, but also a common pattern of mid-life-crisis behaviors involving alcohol and an affair. Plenty of healthy marriages have been able to survive and thrive after the same. The issue that rocked everyone with the Hatmakers wasn’t that sin happened. Sin happens. It was learning that they had no foundation underneath when the bricks crumbled. They faked having a foundation of Christ for a long time, but were revealed to be leaning on the world for truth and themselves for strength. It’s not too late for them to turn their gaze from the world and their own reflection back toward Jesus. We all have to do the same thing sometimes along this journey.

Now here’s hoping Jamie isn’t the next in line to be deconstructing her faith entirely.[/quote]
