It wasn’t a lie - the MAGA crowd had been trying desperately to make people believe that the murderer was  part of some leftist group starting when Kirk’s body was still warm. That was their number one priority.

Also, this should go without saying but comedians are allowed to make political speeches just like they are allowed to tell jokes in America.

However there are rules/laws in place that do protect people from being unjustly terminated.

That is not a lie.  That is an accurate observation of what occurred all over the internet.  The exact same observation could be made about the left.  The other "them".  At no point did Kimmel state as a fact the kid was MAGA.  At no point did he say that it was MAGA that killed Kimmel.  He merely made an observation.  An accurate observation.

At the time, the evidence suggested the shooter very likely was not a MAGA believer (and evidence released the next day showed that he almost certainly was on the political left).

I think that it is fair to say that people on the left who heard that joke thought it was a joke about what had happened (not to Kirk) in the MAGAsphere on the 10th.  And go look at right-wing luminaries on twitter in the 10th after Kirk got shot.  Laura Loomer within minutes was screaming about Islamic terrorism.  That's just one example.  There are dozens of influencers who similarly tried to point the finger at various groups.

What Kimmel said was a 100% accurate observation as to what was happening on the 10th.  100%.  Would it have been MORE complete to say the left was doing the same thing?  Absolutely.  The left was instantly on the fact that it was Utah, MAGA territory, his father, guns in the house, etc.

Kimmel's suspension has cost Disney over $3 billion.  I'd say one of them is more impactful at the moment.

The outrage over his comments betrays an ignorant populace, both willfully and objectively.  MAGA lacks intellectual curiosity and thinks it can somehow supplement with moral superiority, which it doesn't actually have.  It's a weird thing to observe from the outside. +1 He wasn’t even commenting on Kirk’s death itself. He was commenting on MAGA’s response. His statement that they were hellbent on making the shooter anyone than them is true.

Anyone other than them = leftists and trans people. MAGA made this decision before the shooter was even arrested that this was an “us vs them” situation and that they were going to find someone to blame outside of their party no matter what. He didn’t say the shooter actually was MAGA.

And then he made fun of the fact Trump politicized Kirk’s death and then immediately completed all stages of grief in time to get back to his ballroom construction.

I get MAGA is jumpy over Kirk’s death, but they’re descending into craziness in trying to censor criticism of this administration and harassing Starbucks baristas. One even wrote “loser” in a cup in an attempt to make it look like someone who worked at Starbucks did it. Insane.[/quote]
