In my mother's case, she and her friends viewed this as a social class thing, whether they stated this explicitly or not. No black, no two-piece swimsuits, and no pierced ears until maybe 12. It was not a religious or southern thing. It's looser now, much like the "rules" on white after Labor Day have loosened, but the same thinking still guides many of us who were raised that way. I don't judge others for putting their kids in black, but it is not a color I am looking to dress my child in. [/quote]
