SES is strongly correlated to race and that's why some people make the jump to racisim it's not true. All any family wants is the best education for their child and the higher SES you go the better the educational experience. Thats just a fact
Isn't being exposed to a realistic cross section of the society you live in part of the educational experience? How long will you shield your child from lower SES people for? You may not call it racism, but that's what it amounts to.
As a white person, I have no issue with diversity. My child in her private has more diversity than my other in public. I rather both be around kids that want to succeed than those that do not care. I sure as heck wouldn't move out to bumblef$ck West Virginia to go to school with all white kids. They have extreme low SES levels. This is not about race. Stop making it about race. It is mainly about the increasing wealth gap of this county as more and more poor people can move into low income housing that is being offered and the middle-class families getting sucked dry in taxes to pay for it. People that moved out to Montgomery County wanted a SUBURBAN lifestyle, otherwise they would live in DC. As the urban development pushes past Bethesda into Rockville, Silver Spring, and Gaithersburg while farm lands such as Clarksburg, Damascus turn into single family and townhouse havens, there is very little suburban left. And there are no new roads (besides 200) or schools to show for the increase. The county builds for taxes, makes up their required low income housing and screws the kids by not measuring apartments/condos as "school child housing" when in fact many immigrants rent or purchase one and live 2-3 families in a 2 bedroom apartment.
This! This is so right on. People moved to MoCo because they want to be in a suburban area with good schools and a good sense of community. If they wanted city life, they would be in DC. This is very much not about race. I am not white and don't care if my kids go to school with kids who are white/black/Asian/Latino/purple/orange. I do want them to be at a school with adequate resources where they will be challenged to learn to the best of their ability.
