Gays make up less than 4% of the population and transgender people probably less than point 4% of the population and yet they seem to dominate the news coverage these days.  (Social issues news stories)

NPR's agenda is clearly - let's push this agenda (gay marriage is wonderful; choosing to "be" the opposite sex is a totally normal choice) until the cows come home (or Christians surrender, whichever comes first.)

If you are old fashioned and have old fashioned morals and values, NPR is not interested in doing a story about you (except to use you to make a point about how wrong and backwards you are etc.)

So if most republican constituents don't really care so much about these issues, why do elected officials keep passing these types of laws? Are they pandering to s very small segment of social conservatives that they want to get fired up?  These laws affect people, simply not talking about them doesn't make them go away.

FWIW, I believe you- DH is a self-described moderate Republican that doesn't really care all that much about social issues.  But he also has a hard time finding Republican candidates he actually wants to vote for- Gov. Hogan was an exception.  DH is originally from Mississippi and when the state passed their anti-LGBT law a few months back he was like WTH?! All the problems in the state and THIS is what lawmakers choose to focus on?![/quote]
