So more white apply, more will get in. I wonder if PP is suggesting that school limit # of white families who can apply. I find it pretty sad that white families face this backlash. Nobody suggests that Banneker, which has wonderful test scores, increase its outreach to white families, even though the percentage of white children is increasing. Banneker would benefit from some added Diversity.
Martha Cutts, now retired Latin HOS, said in the Post last year that she wished there could be a lottery preference for economically disadvantaged students. It isn't allowed under current lottery rules so a moot point. But the demographic shift that's happened there is changing the school. There is something to this that's bigger than Latin. White families are less likely to choose new schools, at least for upper grades (high school) until there is a 'track record.' Once Latin got a permanent building and had graduated some 12th graders it got much more popular among white families. Same thing HS happened at LAMB and YY too, to a lesser degree. Both are diverse but also more white then they were in their first 5 years. I don't think there is a conspiracy rather that schools more appealing to white parents once it is clear they 'work.'
