Folks are too focused on the "leagues" and not the sport. We are a former NCSL family that is now happily in a CCL club. I don't benchmark a club by what league they choose to be in, I look at my kids and watch their passion for the sport grow and skills improve. For those who claim that CCL isn't "as" competitive, I'd urge you to look at the VA State Cup teams and results. Proof's in the pudding. 1st world problems!
I agree with most of your post, but am not sure how meaningful State Cup results are these days. There are definitely some great teams in the State Cup finals at various ages, but the competition is a lot weaker overall with many of the area's best players in ECNL and DA. I don't know if there are any CCL insiders here, but I'm curious about what the plan for the league is once the girls DA and boys' ECNL leagues are in place. It seems likely that ECNL will take over the second tier below the DA, which would make CCL the third tier in the area (if you accept that they are now the second tier below the boys' DA and girls' ECNL). Will CCL change its membership or marketing to compensate? I'd love to see a CCL/NCSL/WAGs merger below the top levels to help with the dilution problem others have identified here.
