DH's uncle makes things out of wood for a hobby.  For our wedding several years ago he gave us a nice, small breadboard (so useful!) and carved the handle of an ice cream scoop (random, but useful!).  Apparently he also meant to make us an end table.  He finished it this year.   Silly me for assuming he would ship this to us!  He delivered it to us at my sister's, where we were staying, the night before we returned from the holidays so we could pack it in our one suit case.  Ha!  He also had wrapped it in a big garbage bag so the fumes didn't give him a headache as he drove.  It was still wet and needed to air out for at least 5 or 6 more days.  Did we have a yard we could put it in?  Sadly no, we live in an apartment without a porch.  As we were talking he also noticed we would need to wipe it down a bit more to get some of the extra stain off of it.  I'm fairly certain it would have gone up in flames if anyone lit a match within 5 feet of it.  Needless to say I didn't bother calling the airline to see if they would allow us to check a piece of furniture reeking of chemicals.  My sister was a champ and offered to store it until we can pick it up.  She's an angel.  DH's uncle is super nice.  The whole situation was just really funny to me.
