The Quran also says this:

O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk. (5:51)[/quote]

Yes but this verse STILL doesn't say all Christians and Jews are going to hell unless they convert.

Allah speaks from two perspectives throughout the Quran- current perspective and past or overall perspective. At the time the Christians and Jews WERE trying to kill Islam off so a warning was issued here. But overall Allah speaks well of Christians and Jews.

Qur'an 3:86: How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. Those - their recompense will be that upon them is the curse of Allah and the angels and the people, all together, abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved. Except for those who repent after that and correct themselves. For indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Qur'an 9:30.  And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away![/quote]
