I thought I read it in the Washington Post article for the class 2019 that TJ admitted 490 kids? But the normal class is 425 ish. Which means they are expecting yield of 60+ kids accepted turning TJ down. Only if more than 60 kids accepted turning down TJ will they go into those WL then.
The current freshmen to junior classes at TJ are all between 450 and 470 students. The senior class is around 420 students, but it's abnormally small (there were almost 460 seniors in the Class of 2014). So I don't think they are necessarily expecting 60 admitted students to turn down the TJ offer. They might be expecting 20-30 kids to turn them down, and only starting to make offers from a wait list if that happened.
