I am actually enjoying this thread. Congrats to Ross families you are building a great school!
I would enjoy it more if people posted a few words on why they love it so much.
LAMB- here's why (in no particular order) 1. SES and racially diverse... and it's celebrated. We had a fundraiser where every single parent participated regardless of income ability. It really showed that we all have buy-in in our kids' education. No one gave an excuse. No one looked for a hand-out. We all stood up for our kids. It was inspiring. We're also a true rainbow where we celebrate our differences. There's the school of thought that we should be color-blind and pretend not to see our differences. At LAMB the opposite is true. We're not color blind. We see all of our colors and we love them! 2. Montessori. It would take a book to explain it. So, I'll leave people to do the research on their own. But, very quickly, it's approach to learning is researched and affirmed time and time again. I've seen my DC's growth from it. It's remarkable. 3. Parent community- very tight-knit and supportive. Parents are very involved regardless of English ability. We welcome, support and encourage each other. 4. The global aspect- my DC learned about Africa, Asia and other countries. There's a focus on Latin America, but that's not limiting at all. These kids are learning about the entire world. 5. Peace ceremonies. These are monthly events in which children who show acts of peace through out the month are acknowledged. These ceremonies are also celebrations of the children's accomplishments in the arts. Every month particular communities showcase the songs, dances and theater they've learned for that month. It's chilling to see. The kids are amazing. Regardless of their backgrounds. This school is a model for the nation. Disclaimer- this school is not perfect. No school is, but we're in constant discussion regarding how to improve things and the discussion is welcomed. That's perfect to me!
