Just looking at the numbers has limited value because so much depends on your body type. FWIW, I'm 5'3" and weigh 110. I'd describe myself as having a gymnast's build -- relatively broad shoulders, long well-defined arms, a short torso, muscular thighs and shapely calves. Oh, and I've got boobs too. To avoid looking matronly or stocky, I need to keep my abs flat and my hips from rounding out too much. The result is an hourglass shape that is pleasing to me and DH. Nobody would say I look too skinny, but I do get appreciative glances, which I must admit I enjoy. And, while I'm no fashionista, I enjoy clothes enough that it's rewarding to me to be able to look good in lots of different styles. I'll note that I'm in my early 50s with kids in HS and college, so I have more time to exercise, which makes it easier to maintain my weight. I've been able to find ways to exercise by doing things I enjoy with friends -- e.g., biking, walking, tennis, yoga -- and I've found a weight-training class that is effective and even kind of fun. I rarely weigh myself; I can tell how I'm doing by looking in the mirror and by how I feel and move. I'm pretty healthy for my age and I attribute that in part to keeping my weight down. Additionally, and perhaps most important, eating right, exercising and feeling fit also helps my emotional outlook -- I feel if not youthful, then at least not senescent.:) At my age, I see some friends who are starting to get really bummed about their age and others (really most of my friends) who are still vital and game to try new things. My anecdotal sense is that fitness level is a factor in this.
