Can you swing private school for both kids? If you already own your condo or townhouse in DC it will have greater appreciation than the Montgomery County suburbs. If you're not set on a house, you could look at a condo in Arlington or a very small house in Falls Church. Mclean is another option if you are looking for a more suburb feeling. I moved to Montgomery for the schools and am incredibly disappointed. It was a waste of money and I would not recommend it to anyone.
I am sorry that you are disappointed. I moved to Montgomery County for the schools and am satisfied.
Same. We moved from DC where are kids were in a well-regarded charter. We've been very happy with our move too. There is no GT option in DCPS, either through curriculum or through differentiated grouping with a solid advanced peer group, so if you have kids performing well above the mean, you're likely to be paying for private school, if not for ES, then for MS and HS (although I have many friends who have been happy with Deal/Wilson). Our kids have done well in MCPS, and have qualified for HGC and compacted math, so are now getting plenty of challenge -- which I don't think they would have gotten in DCPS. Not sure how moving to MoCo was a waste of money -- I suppose it depends on what you traded your DC house for.
