He's addressed the gay rumor, and said he's found it offensive because it implies that if he were gay he would lie about it.  I actually do buy that. Don't know whether Clooney is gay, but some gay men are still dating or marrying women who may or may not know their true orientation. It's still happening. Just because you think people are more accepting then they were in the 80s doesn't mean everyone's out of the closet from day 1. 
E.g.: Ricky Martin only came out in 2010, and rumors were flying many years prior, but his girlfriends were all telling the press what a stud he was.[/quote]
