I am assuming that the person who first responded is perfectly aware of open floor plans, but was responding to the hyperbole of saying a kitchen  was "in the middle of the living room." I have seen plenty of open kitchen/ family or living room plans too, but never one with the kitchen in the middle of the room. I like the open floor plan and know plenty of real cooks who have them.[/quote]

You either don't know whan an open floor plan is, or (more likley) you don't know anybody who cooks. Heating pizza in the microwave is not cooking.[/quote]
