First, I can't really tell what you are arguing here -- what's your point?  Is it "Tom Farquhar has gone crazy in promoting sports at Sidwell?"  or "Sidwell does value athletics after all?"  And with respect to the faculty culture on athletics, and referencing one of the things you mention, it's my understanding that the committee that considers curriculum changes recommended that all Sidwell students have at least one interscholastic sports experience (playing on a Sidwell team that competes against other schools as opposed to fulfilling the 11-semester PE/Athletics requirement by 11 semesters of PE).  Farquhar may well have endorsed that.  The faculty went [b]crazy[/b], however, and that proposal went nowhere (and there was lots of talk from the faculty about deemphasizing sports or getting rid of any PE/athletics requirement at all, FYI).

Secondly, saying things like "are you sure you aren't Tom in drag?" and saying "stop whining and start leading, Tom" -- under the conceit that he is anonymously posting on Facebook -- does seem mean-spirited to me.  If you don't see it as mean-spirited, it just confirms to me that you are, well, kinda mean.
