I agree. I do think it's possible to design a kitchen that is function enough that buyer will be happy working there and aesthetically neutral enough that it won't be a dealbreaker for most buyers, but no one loves everything, and when people say "timeless" they usually mean "the stuff that's been in vogue for the past 5-10 years."

With that caveat, I'd suggest full overlay Shaker-style cabinets in a medium wood finish, simple handles (no bin pulls), plain granite and an undermount stainless sink, and a white tile backsplash with maybe one band of something interesting. It's not a big deal to redo a backsplash (or redo the band), and you could put in new countertops at sale time if you guessed wrong on how neutral it was. But the result is going to be a pretty bland kitchen. Useful, but dull.[/quote]
