I am thinking of "retiring" to become a teacher for my second act. I feel like being around kids all day will keep me young. I am probably naive about how much work it will be, though. Has anyone here done it?
I am a long-time SAHM who is a part time assistant in an elementary school. Kids are pretty naughty and disobedient these days. No not every kid but it's more the rule than the exception these days. And if you plan to work in a public school you will waste so much time going to IEP meetings, dealing with annoying parents and telling students to stop talking and do their work. If I had to be here more than 3.5 hours a day I would definitely quit. I like most (but not all) of the adults I work with. And I would not even consider middle or high school personally.
