People who love and want to go to Duke don’t think like you do.  They don’t think the end all and be all of their college experience is the name brand of Harvard. They are looking and thinking about what they want their four years of college to be.  Most of the boys want to meet hot chicks, most college kids want to go to crazy parties, they want to lounge around outside on the quad and play frisbee.  They aren’t thinking about how the classics professor as Harvard is the best classics professor in the world and it will be life changing to learn from her.

They got into Duke. Their life will be just fine. They have a huge network of rich smart people.  They have access to the same fancy finance bro jobs or law schools or med schools. It’s not like Johns Hopkins med school doesn’t take kids from both Duke and Harvard.  Jesus.  You’re acting like it’s squandering something to choose Duke over Harvard and that’s just dumb.  No one ten years into their career is going to say: I picked the Harvard candidate over the Duke candidate because one was Harvard.  No.   They will say; these guys are smart obviously and which one do I like better and who has the more relevant skills.  And a lot of times it’s the one who went to parties in college and met hot chicks.

I personally think the offsite parties are kind of dumb but that isn't a sign of Duke having a bad social life. These parties look much more fun than anything at Harvard, and are inclusive of a lot more kids than the rare Harvard party. Duke isn't socially where it was when frats were on campus (and when it was less nerdy than it is now), but it is still far more social than Harvard.[/quote]
