My daughter plays with everyone but calls the 'cool girls/popular" as the ones who are interested in makeup and fashion trends. She is not into that stuff. Also, the "cool/popular" girls are the ones who are very socially versed. Mine child is on the quieter side so she views those kids as more popular. Which is true, often the more socially versed kids stand out.

Agree with this. Those girls just interested in other things. I've never seen or heard them put down my DD for not being into makeup or fashion. But they aren't eager to play with her either. It can feel like rejection but I think it's more self selection.

My DD is also quiet, and has nerdy interests (sci fi and horses). I think it will take her a bit longer to find her people, which I think is fine. I know it can be lonely in the meantime, but that's what family is for. I had a similar experience in elementary and middle school, and then in high school I found a lot of kids with similar interests and became part of a group and made several very close friends who I am still in touch with today. It works out in the end.[/quote]
