OP back; we ended up going with Sidwell, by DD's choice. She needed encouragement and support from me that she could be successful there. I told her I thought she would do well at either place and had my support. We were then thrown for a major loop as she was admitted off the WL to GDS, which was always her first choice, and felt like the right combination of "happiness" and academic rigor. I think it will work out well for her. Appreciate everyone's input and looking forward to a great first year for my DD.
Congratulations! Curious, what made you decide against GDS if that was originally her #1?
She was waitlisted at GDS, and we were told that WL movement was unpredictable and potentially unlikely. So I tempered her expectations there so she could realistically consider the two great choices she had. We were very suprised when the WL moved, and she was very happy with that outcome, with no internal hesitation. Retrospectively, Sidwell absolutely would have been the right choice for us vs. SRSH, but I understood the pull DD felt. It felt like a very special place for girls. Between GDS and Sidwell, I now feel that my personal preference for her would have been Sidwell; I do think she would have risen to the challenge and there's a part of me that wanted to show her that she could do it. But she had strong feelings about GDS that included a "gut" feeling that I want to teach her is real. It's a great school and I think she'll be a fish in water there.
