Argh, that's not what I said!  A binge is one indication that you MIGHT be an alcoholic.  Some people will binge and not be alcoholics.  Some alcoholics will go through periods of fooling themselves that they can drink moderately, and just because they are not binging at the moment does not mean they are not alcoholics.

But yes, I do think that you can't be defined as an alcoholic unless you ACTUALLY GET DRUNK.  I'm not saying this will look like the stereotypical drunk-in-the-gutter drunk.  But the OP's husband apparently is not even getting drunk (unless his 2-3 drinks are actually 3 doubles pounded at once).  An average size man can have 2-3 drinks over the course of an evening without raising his BAC very significantly.
