Well I find Mamdani noble. Like Bernie. Unfortunately, unless you change our system and not live reflecting capitalism values, it's almost impossible to help those without money here unless you steal, lie or cheat to find the money to give to them. Of course one way you can do it is to convince those with funds to give to those without. That's about the best you can do. America is simply not a society that values those without - it's a country of the strong survive and are to be admired - no matter whether they are good or evil. The only thing that America values is money, not compassion, responsibility, justice, and most certainly, not childcare for all! Mamdani is popular simply because so many now are in the having less than having more bucket so of course want someone to represent them. I hope he succeeds in his goals but he's definitely fighting an uphill battle all the way. I hope against hope that maybe finally, someone like him can help even 1% of everyone he wants to help.
hmm- this really made me think- this is probably another reason that americans dont have the same losing their minds reaction to schools being bombed, child victims of gun violence, starving children as europeans do, children are weak and poor so they are worthless to americans. We are ex pats right now and I am surprised by how people outside of the us have such a different relationship and view of children and childhood. children are actually treated like citizens with interests and rights, very different approach to the american approach that parenting is indulging in a very expensive hobby.
