Name something that doesn’t involve bringing others down. We know it makes you happy to “own the libs”, love Trump tearing down the east wing, and laugh at brown people being hunted in the street. I’m not asking about gloating. What is good in your personal life as a result of this regime? Has your grocery store lowered its prices? Did you finally get that promotion a DEI had stolen from you? Are you making so much money now that your wife can quit her job and stay home where she belongs pumping out babies? Is your child no longer gay? Are you paying less for health insurance? How has your life improved?
Immigration moratorium for 25 years. The foreign born population of the United States is already at record levels and we need decades to assimilate the tens of millions of newcomers into our nation. And we're all about to suffer a tidal wave of job losses due to AI and automation and the last thing we need is millions of foreigners coming here to compete for increasingly scarce jobs and resources.
But if MAGA women get to work producing the humongous families that the white nationalists want, there’s still going to be stiff competition for jobs, college admissions, resources, etc. I’m with you on AI though. That’s the real threat to our well-being.
I don't know why you feel the need to drag race into it -- that's a tangent to my belief that we need decades to integrate the record-number of foreign-born citizens; maybe then everything can stop becoming a racial squabble. But as to your substantive comment about "MAGA women" producing "humungous families" -- we are so far away from American citizens creating any kind of population boom, that this is not a serious argument. American citizens aren't even reproducing at population-stable rates (there are many reasons for this, but it's a separate conversation). And the Americans who want to have "humungous" families are going to do so anyway. Importing millions of foreigners just adds to that number. Under an immigration moratorium, our population will likely stabilize or even shrink a little (which would not be a bad thing) before stabilizing. There is no threat of "humungous" American families creating a population book that will make it more difficult for our children to find jobs, houses, etc. The threat is the 8 billion people on the planet who aren't Americans but want to come here, and will take jobs away from American kids when they do.
I guess you haven’t been paying attention to Project 2025, or the concerted effort on the right to push women out of college and careers and into babymaking, or any of the innumerable racial dogwhistles coming from alt-right influencers and official government social media accounts who don’t like the direction the demographics are headed. But thank you for agreeing that natalism is a ridiculous and unrealistic policy for MAGA to be pushing, and directly at odds with the scarcity mindset that’s driving the xenophobia.
Scarcity is not a mindset -- it's a fact of life. Valuable resources are scare -- that's what make them valuable. And as automation and AI eliminate millions of jobs for Americans, jobs will become increasingly scarce. Which is exactly why we need to stop importing a million+ people every year (and that's just the legal immigration) who will be looking for those increasingly scarce jobs and competing Americans and their children. Sadly (in my view) technology is progressing to the point where so much will be automated and done by robotics/AI, that there will be far fewer job opportunities for humans. None of us can stop it. But what we can do is stop making the problem worse for Americans workers; stop importing a million foreigners looking for jobs every year.
We’re quickly reaching the point of no return where it won’t matter what the population is. If immigration is curtailed, those jobs are going to get replaced by robots, not Americans. In a post-labor AI world, there won’t be jobs for anyone except a dwindling class of stateless oligarchs who own everything.
That would be a dire outcome, indeed. Nonetheless, such a case would only present an even stronger argument for a complete and total immigration moratorium. We do not need to be importing millions of new arrivals when "there won't be jobs for anyone." And it most certainly matters what the population is. 300 million unemployed people in country of 350 million is far better than 800 million unemployed people in a country of 850 million. It's not complicated. When you're in a sinking ship, don't pour more water into the boat.
