DH is a journalist (not at WaPo) and we are unsure if we will keep our subscription. I can’t read their opinion section anymore and some of the news coverage is clearly being influenced. And the layoffs are not about becoming more competitive, as the editor claimed. How can we support that with our subscription? But…it’s the WaPo. It is irreplaceable. And the journalists who remain will only be hurt by cancelling. So we feel stuck. God, I hate Bezos.
I will always subscribe to the Washington Post no matter what. Democracies cannot function without newspapers. No one else cannot replace the Post. Yes, it's a dark time for the paper, but the Trump era will be over soon enough and I want the Post to still be here when he's gone.
+1 These people canceling their subscriptions are idiots.
At some point you have to call it. What are you supporting with your subscription? It’s not the Democracy Dies In Darkness days …. Those are long gone. Bezos is supporting an administration that is quite actively trying to make sure that we don’t have free and fair elections ever again. Maybe read the news and get up to speed.
You how there's people on the far right who are just completely whacked out and believe all kinds of crazy nonsense? You're the left wing version of that.
I wish I was a lefty loon. Pay attention. Did you read about what happened in Georgia yesterday? Are you listening to the rhetoric from this administration about federalizing elections (highly unconstitutional and also intended to exert control over elections). Seriously, maybe read the news. Like, not Fox News, but the news.
You said the Post is supporting, in its reporting, Trump stealing elections, which I don't even know how you could possibly be more wrong. The Post has been reporting on Trump vs. Georgia's election officials literally for years.
I’m not saying that. Your reading comprehension is weak. I’m saying that with today’s layoffs and slashing of various sections of the Post, the publication continues to lurch toward being a propaganda arm for Bezos and, because Bezos oh-so-cozy with Trump these days, Trump. I’m not supporting that with my $. Just like I’m not buying anything ever again on Amazon. You do you. But I’m not endorsing a paper that is clearly being influenced by a Trump supporter and oligarch while Trump dismantles are democracy. The stakes are high now. They were high before, sure, but if you ever wondered what it looked like when countries turned into oligarchic dictatorships, you’re seeing it now. Apparently, Democracy Dies in Darkness was a marketing tagline when Bezos thought democracy was cool. Apparently, he’s changed his mind.
I don't know what this word salad is supposed to mean, but Trump friggin hates the Post. So I guess you have that common with him.
