Sorry, if I leave it blank there is no urgency to make it up and I have to literally chase kids down to get them to take a test. An “absent” (auto fills to 50%) creates a desire to take it.[/quote]

I agree. If I don’t put those zeroes, then the work doesn’t get done. [b]The zero is an accurate reflection of what happens if the student doesn’t complete the work. [/b]

The alternative is waiting until the end of a marking period and retroactively putting a zero, weeks or months after the absence. I don’t see how that’s better at all.

Not all absences are excused.  I had a student the other week who came up to me and said “I was on vacation last week.  What did I miss?”  Lol.  He didn’t miss any tests and I did let him make up work, so he was fine, but I was a bit annoyed.[/quote]

I meant excused absences. It’s stupid to put a 0 in there for a test that the kid wasn’t there to take.[/quote]
