Fairfax county starts 2 weeks before labor day. They don’t get religious holidays and have 2 weeks off in winter, they still end mid june.

In HS, sports and marching band start in early August, so its a problem to start a lot earlier if kids are working, camps, etc.  If you want your pools open, you need lifeguards.[/quote]

There are school districts in the South and in Florida that start in July.  They still manage to have sports, marching bands, and pools staffed by life guards. [/quote]

It never ceases to amaze me that some people on this forum are so convinced that the way MCPS does things is the only way it can be done. If you drive 30 minutes from MoCo you can find school districts that start earlier in August.  [/quote]
