When I had to have a (different) minor surgical procedure when I was single, I asked a friend. I'm married, but if my husband was gone tomorrow, I have at least 5 local people I could comfortable ask to do this, and probably another 10 I would ask in a pinch. Maybe work on building community? Living in a world where there are people you can ask for favors, and who ask you for favors, is a dramatically better world than always having to handle every single thing by yourself. Do you have kids? Doesn't seem possible to me to be a single parent without that kind of community.
F u. I'm betting you are a SAHM with a bunch of SAHM friends. Stop being so smug when you are married and have someone to take you.
I'm the PP. No, I have a full time job. I just think this is a missing-the-forest-for-the-trees question. Yes, there's an acute need for her to get a ride. But I'm pointing out that I think there's a larger need for her to build community, for this and about a thousand other reasons. No one knows what's coming. Husbands die or run out. You get sick. Your kid is puking at the same time your puking and your other kid needs to go somewhere. That's the bad stuff. Plus the good stuff - having people to come over and have dinner, spend time with, complain to when things are hard, share joys with. Community is valuable, and insisting on solving all kinds of problems in a one-off, logistical way instead of building community (yeah, you have to build it, it doesn't just appear) is short term thinking. So maybe the OP should take this as a wake up call to invite some people over this weekend.
