Honestly, it’s the social media and gaming communities. The alt right started preying on young boys in these spaces years ago. Discord, YouTube, instagram, Roblox, and even Minecraft. The next ambush for boys is physical fitness. Middle school boys who are in the either skinny or fat awkward stage see unrealistic images of what they should be. They see super hero bodies, they want to do better in sports, they want to not be a target of bullies, and they don’t want to be embarrassed in PE. Physical fitness and going to the gym can be a great mental health boost but the minute you start seeking information on line about it, you are bombarded by misogynist, incel, conservatism crap. The games and platforms are designed to hook you, keep you coming back as often as possible which makes you lonely. Every hour you spend on it is another hour you aren’t spending being out face to face with people developing social skills. The kids call it rotting or brain rotting. The far right loves this because the kids are susceptible to them now. It’s their chance to validate their feelings of sadness as being the fault of women, other races, gay people or whatever group conservatives want to demonize. The games and platforms love it because the far right also wants to keep them clicking and coming back, staying lonely and unhappy.
This is mostly what Galloway blames for the problem. Men mature slower than women and the availability of online communities, where you don't have to deal with real human people, makes it much harder to develop the social skills that are necessary to succeed at anything. Last night in an interview with Andersen Cooper, Galloway said "Have you ever observed a bunch of 15-year-olds? Half the boys are idiots and the girls could be junior senators." Exactly. Girls start lapping the boys so early these days and most boys DON'T CARE, they just want to play video games and hang with their bros and don't care about school. They have zero ambition. Some care about playing sports. I'm Gen X and when we were teenagers the boys I knew--most of whom were not going to go on to college--definitely cared about getting jobs in high school to pay for cars, having girlfriends, making plans, etc. Nowadays you can't get a teenage boy out of his room.
