This story doesn't make sense, so far. I am a naturalized citizen so I understand the immigration process better than an average person, one cannot get a SSN on a tourist visa, that just doesn't happen. How did he manage to get a law enforcement job without a SSN? This means, at some point he had a valid work authorization and along with that a SSN was issued, just to say he worked on a tourist visa is misrepresenting the facts. OTOH, maybe he faked a SSN and police department didn't even bother to complete the initial inquiry, the probability of that exists but is very slim. They need to share further details because based on the information shared, it looks like ICE is fabricating the facts.
Well if he's a police officer, he probably carries a firearm. Since he's an alien, that right there is illegal.
Isn’t a rational explanation that the officer forged documents? Hardly a rare occurrence as document fraud is extensive and it not surprising the systems notionally in place failed. Note he was caught when he endeavored to purchase a gun. ICE could be wrong, but that strikes me as unlikely. I am from Chicago and my best friend from high school taught in that district for over 30 years. A tough place known for corruption (although there are worse). I find some of the comments here emotional and naive.
Did you read the police department's statement above? I bolded the pertinent parts in case you don't feel like reading it. The officer would have had to have had a completely fake identity to get through the screening he received (federal, state police, and FBI). This includes being fingerprinted. How likely do you think it is that he faked his way through all these levels of screening? Before his hiring, the village confirmed through the federal government that Bojovic was legally authorized to work in the U.S., according to the police department. "At the time of his hire, Officer Bojovic presented the Village with a Work Authorization Card, which was issued by the federal government's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The card was valid and recently renewed. We also conducted a full background check, including his criminal history with both the Illinois State Police and the FBI," part of the police department's statement reads. "The bottom line is that all information we received from the federal government indicated that Officer Bojovic is legally authorized to work in the United States as a police officer. Clearly, without that authorization, the Village would not have hired him. Additionally, the Village has not received any notice from any federal or state agency that his work authorization status has ever been revoked." Police said the village also confirmed Bojovic’s immigration status allows him to carry a firearm while on duty.
These people do not read. They just regurgitate whatever their leader tells them.
