I am retired from ICE. Plain and simple: in the old days (prior to Trump), it was rare that any ICE law enforcement personnel wore masks. Under Trump, his immigration policies/strategies are so off the charts that it’s become dangerous to be an ICE agent. These guys/gals are your neighbors, attend your churches, etc. By and large, they HATE what they are being pressured to do, but also have to be concerned about their own (and family) safety. They aren’t “nazis” or “gestapo,” they are unfortunately between a rock and a hard place. They either quit (and then where do they go?) or obey the orders they’ve been given. Trump is also hiring thousands of rehired annuitants to supplement ICE resources. These retirees are able to continue to collect their pensions, are getting paid upwards of $195k additional per year, and $50k signing bonuses.
The Nuremberg defense didn't go so well for many Germans "just following orders."
Nuremberg was after the Allies won and Germany was defeated. It was conducted by the victors. Are you suggesting Democrats stage a coup against a sitting President? There's a word for that, but I can't recall what it is...
The word you are looking for is revolution. The president is the one staging a coup, not the Democrats. Catch up, please. That’s unlikely, though, and the blue states just have to get their acts together. We can certainly arrest people for illegal acts during this presidency, he’s not going to pardon everyone if he even survives the term. He might not even be immune to everything, because they are far from official acts in many cases.
Please explain how a sitting President can stage a coup against himself?
Well to be fair, a South Korean president recently mobilized the army to take over Congress. That seems like a coup by a sitting president. Most of what trump is doing is being supported by the Republican majority in the house and the Senate. The courts are all that stand in his way and there is not a lot that the courts can do when it comes to executive discretion.
