Why does it matter if it were leaked to the public? If it did get leaked, it would be because they told enough people in their personal lives that it got out. Which would mean they prioritized telling friends and family (even though it risks it leaking because someone lets something slip to their cousin or coworker or something) over announcing it to their fans.

I have no idea why it would be important to someone to be the first to tell all the total strangers who worship them online about their engagement. I'd personally just let it leak and never formally announce it, it's not really their business.
