another group that is lobbying for a magnet--letter regarding it: https://www.fairfaxfederation.org/_files/ugd/8bf868_d128de909f284981a476bef5d4429396.pdf The Education committee of the Fairfax Federation is meeting with Reid next month. They have a meeting at Gatehouse prior to that (at least I think that is what it says.) https://www.fairfaxfederation.org/education
Wait they want to make it another GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL? Would it be just part of the school, like some of the other academic year governor's schools, or are they really recommending we create a second TJ that takes the entire building??
It's an endeavor to avoid base school boundary changes. Elephant in the room is open capacity at Herndon HS. Similar to what MacKay called open capacity at Mount Vernon prior to the BOS approving the West Potomac expansion for a bond referendum. Surf the Fed of Citizens association site for names, look up addresses where possible, FCPS committee or BRAC membership. Eastern FX has Edison Global STEM [ how did it end up there and not Lewis?] so there's not a comp product in the western part of the county. https://edisonhs.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/inline-files/GSCP%20FAQs%2011.2022_0.pdf 3 years full time, 90/grade, transfer, no transportation, senior year transfer reg or apply for IB. That letter is NOT about a 60 [2 classrooms] or 90 [3 classrooms] program co-existing with the base school POS.
JFC, not everything is about great falls, lady.
You responded to my elephant in the room of Herndon HS. The fact is the KAA site never should have left the inventory of public land zoned for a school. Saudis 1st rented Dunn Loring then the original Mount Vernon HS. We're pleased it's back especially with a building and FCPS could use the capacity at the KAA site for a base school and the Herndon expansion for more base school students [note planned expansions at Dranesville, Armstrong, undercapacity FE-Colvin Run?] plus adding Russian and a small STEM academy. Yes there have been individuals in boundary for the Langley pyramid squawking on KAA and I am not one of them. Any other implicit KAA purchase complaints? FX Fed is on BRAC and a FFM BRAC rep raised self-perceived KAA issues.
