Greg Abbott’s latest tantrum reads less like law and more like unhinged political theater.

Threatening to remove elected officials for quorum-breaking? Texas law says only courts, not governors, can decide forfeiture of office. Nice try, but this isn’t a royal decree.

Calling fundraising ‘bribery’? Unless campaign donors are bribing lawmakers to skip votes, which even Abbott hasn't claimed.  This is political speech, not a felony.

Extraditing lawmakers for skipping town? Governors can't conjure warrants out of spite. These aren’t fugitives; they’re dissenting legislators using a known political tactic. Abbott's threat is unprecedented and on highly questionable legal grounds.

Motives? Transparent as plexiglass. This isn’t about justice—it’s about vengeance, distraction, and rallying the base with a dose of authoritarian flair. When your policies are shaky, you go after your opponents, not the problems.[/quote]
