MCPS finally posted something: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/news/mcps-news/2025/07/2025-student-transition-day/ . Who should attend Student Transition Day? All students entering Grades K, 6, and 9. Incoming Grade 3 students in intermediate schools. Any student new to MCPS or transitioning to a different school (e.g., due to a move or transfer). What’s the schedule? Transition day is a full school day. Each school creates its own schedule tailored to its community. What’s the difference between Transition Day and an Open House? Transition Day is for students, held during the school day. Open House is for families, usually in the evening. What about transportation? Buses will operate on the regular first-day-of-school schedule.
That's not quite right. The 'Sneak peek' open house has been for families to come to school a couple days before school starts, during the daytime. 'Back to school night' is for parents in the evening a couple week after school starts. 'Open house' has been for parents to come in during the school day, often on Columbus Day in the past, but that's been less consistent lately.
