Why for the life of me would anyone would sractch swimming in finals at PVS LC Age Group Champs in order to rest up for NVSL Divisionals is beyone me. Swimming in finals at PVS Age Group Champs is truly a much bigger achievement/accomplishment than participating in NVSL Divisionals and IAS. Amateur Hour indeed.
Not exactly. My swimmer looked at the psych sheet and, if my swimmer makes finals, it will be the exact same swimmers that she will face at D1 divisionals and/or at NVSL IAS. At NCAP LC practice today, all the kids were saying how much more important NVSL Divisionals and All Stars are than staying for finals on Friday night. Every single one of the parents said their child will scratch because we would otherwise get home around 10 and kids wouldn’t fall asleep until 10:30 pm, and this is if we don’t have crazy thunderstorms that make 495 a standstill on Friday night.
Legitimate question, this meet is stretching over 4 days, so my swimmer is doing 2 events a day and will skip 1 of the days completely. If you were this concerned about Friday and it conflicting with Divisionals why not just do events on the other days? It really doesn’t have to be this dramatic. I also looked at the girls 10 U and 11-12 events for Friday (there is no way you are talking about a 13-14 year old) and it’s exaggerating to say every girl that could final in those events is an NVSL swimmer, there are plenty of Maryland based swimmers ranked in the top 16. 🙄
I’m a PP, and I think you misunderstood: of the NVSL girls and boys participating in the Friday session, many of them will swim Saturday and will also final Friday, so it will be curious who scratches finals Friday. As for your other question: Our club only did three days of LC meets before this weekend. My swimmer only qualified in 6 events because my swimmer did not swim a whole host of other events due to the scheduling on the day of Time Trials. As such, my swimmer qualified for one event Thursday, three events Friday, two events Sunday, and one event Monday. I’m not taking off work and driving to Maryland from the hinterlands of VA for one event. We are only going Friday and Sunday for efficiency reasons.
Doesn’t this then get filed under “we all make choices” then? You are prioritizing summer swim over club, great, just own it and stop complaining about it. For the kids that prioritize club (and their families) the format of this meet sucks because it’s 4 days, 3 of which are weekdays, all in the name of working around summer rec league swim. I get it for the 12 and unders but the 13-14s should have stayed with the older kids at junior/senior champs because the set up of this meet is massively inconvenient for the club focused 13-14 swimmers and their families.
I’m the person to whom you replied. The answer is Yes to everything you asked.
