Ultimately, this is the problem.  What was once purely a celebration of a venerable and great institution has been coopted by Trump to celebrate his birthday.  
And even if his birthday celebration becomes muted, the damage is done.  Most self aware people (even the most narcissistic of politicians) would have intuitively known that that an integrating a personal birthday in the middle of such a great anniversary would detract from the whole celebration.
