Pete’s problem is that he didn’t do anything while in Sec of Trans. So much is coming out about how things have been deteriorating for years. Clearly these are things he could have gotten started on and apparently he didn’t and perhaps made worse. His connecting to the failed Biden admin is a problem. And for those who want to say the Biden admin was a great success, just stop. Those of us in government know how rudderless it was for 4 years. I am 25 year fed and there was never a time when so little was done and so little was even attempted. And it wasn’t Covid for all 4 years. No one was running anything.
Being a part of an unpopular POTUS Administration is politically damaging to a politician's future aspirations but the impact is less for those who weren't the VP. Pence and Harris, for example, will likely never be successful again if running for Federal Government level positions. I don't think Buttigieg's political career is over by any means but I also don't see 2028 Dem nominee in his future. What Dems do have going in their favor is the fact that the 2028 GOP nominee is very likely to be a Trump endorsed candidate with close ties to Trump and therefore the 2028 nominee will be hindered by their ties to an unpopular POTUS.
Unpopular AND Ineffective AND Inept AND Out of Touch
