What a year Pelosi is having. In the shadows she forcing the President out of office then uses all of her power to deny the most popular young person in the party a leadership position.
If you really consider AOC to be the most popular young person in the party, then Democrats won't be winning national elections any time soon.
Multiple things can be true about AOC. She can be a far left loon, as someone here called her. And she can be an iconoclast whose popularity transcends party.
But she isn't.
What she isn't is as "far left" or as "loony" as highly indoctrinated right wing posters try to make her out to be. She is obviously intelligent and able to articulate complex policy issues and has had excellent strategies where it comes to communication, for example social media and other venues which have given her a much wider audience and populist appeal, especially with younger generations, than most other members of Congress - particularly any Republican member of Congress. She's very relatable, from a humble working class background, having worked as a waitress and so on. Is she progressive? Yes. Does she echo some democratic socialist values? Where it comes to raising people up economically, where it comes to healthcare and things like that, absolutely. Nothing loony about that, and it's no more "far left" than say Canada. The right tries to call her "loony" and "far left" because her popularity scares them.
Yep. And the whole socialist boogeyman doesn't wash with younger generations. They don't remember the Cold War, and all that prosperity that was promised if we just repudiated it and worshipped at the altar of capitalism also hasn't been realized. They voted for Trump because he was promising better. When they don't get that they will try something else in the opposite direction.
Well and the two most popular US programs are social security and Medicare. These are SOCIALIST programs. Ombamcare = $ for private insurance companies. Not the right move. Overlook AOC for the version t position at your peril DNC
