So what are the chances of getting into AAP if your child is not “in pool”?
Being in-pool confers no advantage in getting into AAP.
What percentage of kids who end up in AAP in 3rd grade were not in pool?
The majority of kids in AAP were not in-pool. The pool is meant to capture the kids who are most likely inneed of the program at their local school, the top 10%. That top 10% looks different at each of the schools because the population and needs at each of the schools is different. Parent referrals make up the vast majority of kids whose packets are reviewed. The only document that we have that gives an idea about numbers is from 2020 and deals with data pre-2020. If I remember correctly, 2/3 of the in-pool kids are found eligible for AAP and around 1/2 of the kids who are referred. I would guess that those numbers have shifted since the local norms have been introduced with a higher percentage of in-pool kids being accepted, because the norms reflect the school, and a higher percentage of referrals being accepted, because kids with high test scores that had been in-pool before at some schools are no longer in-pool with the local norms.
