“Hapa” is an incel term. Wasian is the appropriate word.
?
Hapa originated in Hawaii. Has it now been co-opted by incels?
It means part-Hawaiian.
no, it doesn’t
It's Hawaiian for "half." My kids use both Wasian and Hapa to describe themselves and other Asian-White kids. Hapa is part of the everyday vocabulary in Hawaii and is most definitely not an insult or incel or right-wing in any way. It's also commonly used on the West Coast, not surprisingly. Wasian is used more commonly on the East Coast, but means the same thing as Hapa. FWIW, my kids consider themselves more Asian American than White. When tan, they are confused as Latin or Mexican. As for Hapa/Wasians on campus, DS is in college in the Boston area, and there are a decent number, but far fewer than Asian-Asian American kids, and fewer than Asian students from Asia.
