FCPS should have been honest from the get go-these are half days/teacher training/planning. Teachers are drowning
 with all the "new" curriculum, basals, and standards on top of all the behaviors of kids, parents, and admin. Give them these afternoons to train, plan, organize. Or pay them a lot more. These are the options. No one wants to babysit your kids on a half day and if your kid do stay get cozy with the idea that they will be on  ST and Lexia while that teacher is working on her work. Free child care does not mean you get to dictate what this looks like. And pack them a snack for the afternoon because these are your children. They survived and people are always saying the education was better back then...maybe because teachers were given true planning time. First of all, FCPS said they would have in school enrichment options. So if your plan included taking FCPS seriously, you’re already screwed.

No one presently in elementary school in FCPS had half days from the 90s. Here in 2024 there is a cost of living crisis in this county and the vast majority of parents have these things called “jobs” that they are required to attend.[/quote]

First of all you have kids. If you want me to take you seriously acknowledge that point. Parents want it all and have no idea what goes on in these schools. FCPS is not the best and has many issues but they did tell parents about this with lots of advance notice. Don't lecture me about the "crisis" go be a parent and if you need the free daycare then take what they give you-they don't have to entertain with sports camps and enrichment. Your kids will be taken care of but most likely on a computer. Get over it.[/quote]

Keep blaming parents for the districts bad choices. And it was a bad choice— no other area district did this; Loudon even asked parents what would work better for them and made adjustments. Why you think FCPS parents should tolerate something in which they were not consulted or prioritized is beyond me.

Keep blaming teachers and schools for all of your issues and the shortage and educational value will continue to decline. See how that works both ways. Loudon did not ask they were bombarded with responses from teachers and parents on their original plan. They adjusted and now they are just days off. Should FCPS do that? Then you will complain about too many days off. Schools can't do it all-parents fought and begged their favorite GOP governor to help them get better instruction in schools. Well it's here and it's mandatory that teachers get the training. Figure out day care or advocate for better teacher pay so they can do it over the summer. Parents do not run the schools-I know that hurts your entitlement but it's true. If you don't like that private schools or homeschooling are also options. [/quote]

Not one single word blaming a teacher but nice try. I blame the FCPS administration.

And yes, Loudon asked parents, that’s why they went to full days off, and only three of them. Most people can make three days off work with enough notice. Seven half days? Anyone working shifts will lose the full day because hospitals don’t staff nurses with “oh but FCPS is over at noon!” In mind. The world and Fairfax county is made up of more than just WFH. [/quote]

What??? Schools are allowing any kid that has to stay the whole day to stay.  So now you are comparing 3 days off that a parent has to find something for to zero days you have to find something for your kid unless you want to.   [/quote]
