Serious question, does anybody have or know where to look for, actual data on historical norms here? From a facts perspective, we know that presidential candidates often give interviews with their running mate. So I think we can put to bed whether that is unusual. We also know that Trump has a history of talking for a very long time in a variety of interviews (we can quibble over whether they were legitimate interviews, but that is beside the point.) But I don't think "either side" would want to say that Trump is the norm. So what is the history of presidential candidates giving interviews? How many in the last 10 weeks of a campaign? How long? How often edited v. not? Lots of slinging insults back and forth, but at least I am genuinely curious on the objective question of whether what is happening is atypical. That should be knowable....
A quick search shows that over the last 20 years candidates have ramped up their interview schedules in the final weeks of a campaign. Interviews can range from short, soundbite- focused segments (5-10 minutes) on news channels to longer, more in-depth discussions (30-60 minutes) on platforms like talk shows or podcasts. Major interviews, such as those during town hall events, have usually more substantial in length and detail. It doesn't seem atypical, but if interviews don't ramp up and get longer, that would not be standard
