Driving the speed limit from Hunt Valley Elementary to Lewis at low traffic times is 20 minutes. You cross multiple stoplights, several major intersections, the Rolling Road interchage which carries almost all of the Fort Belvoir commuting traffic, the Springfield Metro exit/entrance traffic, the Springfield Mall traffic, and the Mixing Bowl, while passing by at least 2 other WSHS zoned elementary schools (one of which is 5 minutes from Lewis and the other one currently a split feeder to Lewis). Driving the speed limit from Hunt Valley Elementary to West Springfield during low traffic times is 5 to 7 minutes, depending on whether or not you hit a red light at Hillside. The ride is all neighborhood roads except for a few dozen yards on Old Keene Mill between Huntsman and Hillside, 2 stoplights if your kid drives themselves, 3 stoplights if your kid is riding the bus or is a senior with a parking lot pass. Two of the stoplights are a right turn. One stoplight is a left turn that has a yield green light for most of the cycle. Every Hunt Valley neighborhood inside the parkway is walkable to WSHS. The entire Hunt Valley zoned neighborhood is bike able to WSHS. It takes roughly the ssme amount of time to drive the back neighborhood roads from Hunt Valley neighborhoods to West Springfield as it does to drive the neighborhood roads from Hunt Valley neighborhoods just to merging onto the Parkway. From the parkway merge fown the parkway through the mixing bowl to Lewis is another 10 to 15 minutes at best, during low traffic times. Anyone who claims otherwise is full of it, or is quoting a time as the crow flies from the very last house on the very edge of the Rolling Valley Elementary/Hunt Valley border, and not road traffic. One can only hope that this person claiming such a ridiculous commute time has nothing to do with determining the rezoning maps. If they are involved in the rezoning process, the whole district is screwed.
She isn't. It's Saratoga Mom on her one-woman crusade to rezone Hunt Valley to Lewis.
